Our Masterpiece Game! This is what GREAT looks like

Saturday March 21st marks the high-water level of our season so far. The Storm girls brought their "A" game - and played about the most flawless game a team can play. Here is what perfection looks like.

1 - Our girls were focused during warm ups.

2 - This is what great defense looks like:
a -We recorded 7 outs by fielding plays cleanly on defense.

b - Our pitchers threw 5 innings of shut-out ball giving up no runs!

c - Our catcher threw out two base runners.

d - Our right fielder threw out a runner at first base.

3 - This is what good offense looks like:

a - We had 10 clean hits.

b - We paid attention to signs and stole bases like crazy.

c - We caused our opponents to make errors in the field by grabbing extra bases on infield singles.

d - We did not swing at bad pitches - and got lots of walks.

All of our girls deserve credit because they have worked very hard, remain teachable, and are extending great effort. As a result -they played up to their potential!

Sierra shows us how to run!

For our second game we had a lot of Storm girls get to third base...unfortunately not all of them made it to home :) .

Here Sierra shows the perfect two moves when on third base. 1st - she is in the running position - ready to push off the base when the pitcher releases. 2nd - She has run down the line - and her right foot is right where coach John drew a line in the dirt - she is looking at thte catcher - and ready to run. PERFECTO!

Our First Game

On Saturday February 21st the Mighty Storm played their first game - and did fantastic. The Highlights:
1 - Quality at bats by the entire team (i.e. - good swings at good pitches - avoided swinging at junk).
2 - Heads up defensive play including three double plays.
3 - A Home Run by Molly.
Goals for our next game
1. Making better contact with the ball (keep eyes on the ball).
2 . Learning signals for stealing and baserunning.
3. More cheering and vocal support for teammates.
4. Better attention and focus warming up.

Coach Denny Cooks up a Storm

Recently Coach Denny invited Coach John over for a little bbq. As a public service we wanted to show everyone exactly how dangerous it is to eat steak with coach Denny. Consider yourself warned.

PS - The Fire department was able to save most of Denny's house - and the Mortons steak was still fantastic!

Team Guideline - Parent Conduct

JOHN ROSE 619-540-1221 bajabound10@cox.net
DENNY HAY 619-778-4984 Haycougs91@Sbcglobal.net

In order for our girls to achieve our goals we need the support of every parent in the following areas.

1. This league does not keep score. Our goal is to limit runs and try to get 3 outs before 4 run rule. This is a developmental league so we will be addressing the season with the following plan.

a) Many position shifts, non-strategic approach - 1st half of season
b) Less position shifting, more strategic approach - 2nd half season
c) Playing to win - end of season tournament.

2. Fielding will be basic. Concentrate on force outs, especially 1st base. Outfield (exception right field) will throw to cutoff, then to 2nd. Softball is a game of catch. Please try to have your daughter catching or throwing the ball 3 times a week at home

3. Pitching (and to a lesser extent catching) takes a major commitment outside of regular practice. If you are interested parents need to commit time to help you develop at home.

4. Parents please do NOT coach players from the stands. Often you are contradicting what we as coaches are trying to have them do in a game situation. Also - too many instructions makes any player nervous. Parents may shout encouragement, affirmations, and give positive reinforcement to their players.

5 - Game time conduct is important. Your child needs to remain in the dugout and focused on the game. You as a parent need to remain in the stands and out of the dugout. Coach Denny and I are available for any discussion or feedback that you may have after practices or via phone. We are NEVER available to discuss issues, concerns, or strategy during a game.

6. Please have your player to practice and to games at scheduled times. Give thought to the food they are eating before practices and games.

7. VERY IMPORTANT*** - In the event of rain or any other important communication issue - the form of communication from us to you is email. We can not and will not be able to contact everyone via phone. CHECK YOUR EMAIL to determine if a game is cancelled, of for breaking news about our team.
